3 Steps to Designing a Living Room

When it time to design a room, we often hear our customers say “I don’t know where to start”. I love this question, because here at Seasons we love helping customers create a room that reflects their own personal style that is both unique and inviting. Here are 3 easy steps:

Find Your Inspiration

You often have a color palette or design style that you gravitate towards. Your inspiration can be a patterned fabric, rug, artwork or just a color combination (ex. blue & white). Once you settle on something you love, you can build from there.

Choose Your Furniture Pieces and Rug

Start with the key furniture pieces – sofa and chairs. They will set the feel for how you want the room to look, casual or formal.  Add your rug, cocktail table, ottoman and accent tables. Always measure the space and create a floor plan to make sure the pieces are the right size for the room. You should be able to move comfortably around each piece. For a sofa, we prefer to use a solid color fabric because it will not become ‘outdated’ as quickly as patterned fabrics. For chairs, try fabrics with texture or a subtle pattern.

Add Accents for Personality

Lamps, accents pillows and decorative accessories add your personal style to the room. Pillows can be easily changed out from time to time to give a fresh new look to your sofa and chairs. Artwork is the jewel of any space. Add a collection of books that reflect your interests, use candles for your signature scent, and include a throw blanket for those chilly nights.

Coastal Paint Colors

We have been working with a lot of clients who are renovating homes by the shore, helping them choose paint colors, fabrics and furnishings. When customers visit our store, they often ask what paint colors we use in our displays. This happens so often that we now keep the Benjamn Moore paint color swatches on hand, and give them to our customers.

So here are some of our favorites - proven winners that are perfect for a coastal home.

Coastal Chic Bedrooms

When decorating a bedroom in a beach house, it is tempting to use a lot of coastal themed patterns and objects, but that can sometimes lead to a "theme park" look. To decorate a bedroom with a chic coastal vibe, it is best to use classic coastal colors, solids, stripes and textured items. You can then bring in a few touches of the coast with your pillows, artwork or accent pieces.

Here are a few examples of Chic Coastal Bedrooms to inspire you.

The classic navy and white color palette and the seagrass texture of the bed frame evoke a coastal feel. A simple shell accent on the side table is all that is needed.

Chocolate Covered Football Strawberries

Football-strawberries

Celebrate the Super Bowl in style! Here is a fun, easy dessert to bring to any game day celebration. Go Team!

Ingredients:

1 Pound Strawberries with Stems (approx. 20)

6 oz. Ghirardelli 60% Cacao Bittersweet Chocolate Chips

3 oz. Ghiradelli Classic White Chocolate Baking Chips

1 Sheet Pan lined with Parchment or Waxed Paper

Piping bag or plastic zip bag with the tip cut off

Directions:

Rinse Strawberries and dry completely. Put the darkt and white chocolates into 2 separate heatproof medium bowls. (Coffee mugs also work well because they are deep and make dipping easy.) Heat in the microwave at half power for 1 minute. Stir, and if necessary, heat in 30 second intervals at half power and stir again until melted.

Line a sheet pan with parchment or waxed paper. Holding the strawberry by the stem, dip the fruit into the dark chocolate, lift and twist slightly, letting any excess chocolate fall back into the bowl. Set the strawberry on the parchment paper. Repeat with the rest of the strawberries and let chocolate harden.

Fill a piping bag or plastic zip bag with white chocolate and create a football pattern as shown in the photo above. Let cool.

Enjoy!
